Wow! It’s already been ten weeks since I started participating in WWW Wednesday. Seems hard to believe that time flies that fast 😉

As always, WWW Wednesday is hosted by the brilliant Sam at Taking on a World of Words.

My reading week started well, but the last few days have been hectic. I was only home for two hours after work and we were getting ready for the A/C men who are supposed to come today! And then I finally went to see Captain America: Civil War which was far better than I had expected. Actually, I loved it.

Unfortunately, that meant I only got through a chapter last night.

Still managed to achieve some things 🙂

WHAT I’M CURRENTLY READING

The Name of the Wind (The Kingkiller Chronicle #1) by Patrick Rothfuss

Past the halfway mark (that’s 400 pages ) through the book and I’m suffering through a major writer comparison right now! Rothfuss reminds me of one of my favourite authors (Guy Gavrial Kay) insofar as they both weave their tales with such grace and poetic flare that ensnare the senses and completely overwhelm the soul. Honestly, this book has already broken my heart once or twice and I’m expecting more by the end of it.

I can’t believe it took me so long to get to it, but now that I’m here, there’s no going back!

Under the Black Flag: The Romance & Reality of Life Among Pirates by David Cordingly

Still making my way through this one. I finished Chapter 4 on Monday and it was an interesting glimpse into women pirates & pirates’ women. I’m hoping to make more headway this weekend.

What a fantastic sequel. I’m hoping to have my review up by this weekend, but for now I’ll say that I loved how the characters from the first book continued to develop and how Margeth gained a stronger voice. A wonderful sci-fi adventure that is entertaining and thought-provoking!

I’m also currently beta-reading for Sara Beth Williams, a wonderful friend and talented writer. She is writing a Contemporary Christian Romance series at the moment! You should definitely check her out HERE!

Like I said, it’s been a busy week without much chance for reading, but I’m hoping to have Rothfuss done by next week and be a good way into Visions of Zarua.

  1. I hope the air-con people turn up. I can imagine it could be unbearable there in summer without AC (I remember days in Spain when the only thing to do was shut all the windows and doors, drop the shutters and sit under the AC).

    I’m glad you’re enjoying The Name of the Wind – it’s on my TBR, First I have to read at least the first Outlander book though and that’s 850 pages of very very small print. Might be a while before I want to read another long book!

    1. They’re at my house and working on it so *fingers crossed*
      It’s difficult to jump from one massive tome to another. I always try to slip some shorter reads in between. Unfortunately, I’m starting to run low on those ;P

    1. It’s the size. It can be a little intimidating when you know you need the time to read it and you want to enjoy it without breaking the flow too much!

  4. Yay for The Name of the Wind!! I’m so glad you’re loving that book, and I hope it continues. 😀 And it’s funny how you mentioned that Rothfuss’s writing reminds you of one of your favorite authors. He reminded me of one of mine: Ursula K. Le Guin.

    I hope you can get your AC problems resolved soon. No air conditioning can make even a few summer days unbearable. (I know the feeling – my wall-mount unit died last summer, and I was lucky to get it replaced in just over a week… but it was a very long week!)

    I also saw Captain America: Civil War recently, and thought it was excellent. Haven’t figured out yet if that or Winter Soldier is my favorite Cap movie, though…

    1. I haven’t read Ursula yet, but my sister has and she loves her. I’ll find a way to her through my piles of books ;P
      We have a new AC finally! It’s already working wonders in my house (helps too that it’s only 9ºC outside ;P)
      I think Winter Soldier is my favourite, only because it felt like more of a Cap film and more intimate with its characters. But Civil War is definitely rounding up the top of my favourites in the MCU! Now to see what Doctor Strange brings in November 🙂

      1. You should! 🙂 If she has any of Ursula’s fantasy books, make sure you start with A Wizard of Earthsea. That’s a series where it’s important to start with the first book and go chronologically from there.

        That’s great about your new AC! Now if it gets hot again (and since it’s almost summer, it unfortunately will), you’ll be able to keep cool this time.

        I’m really intrigued about Doctor Strange, too. But do you know whose solo movie I’m really looking forward to, thanks to Civil War? Black Panther. 😀

      2. She doesn’t have Earthsea, but I’ve been planning to buy the first book for myself anyway 🙂
        I have to agree with you! Black Panther is now one of my favourite characters. I cannot wait for his movie!

  9. I don’t know any of the books that you have mentioned apart from Under The Black Flag which you had mentioned on another post. However, The Name of the Wind sounds so good. Not a genre that I usually read but I am intrigued. I hope you enjoy all your next reads. Happy reading 🙂

  10. Aw thanks for the mention friend! I hope you’re enjoying the start of the book. I have a book I think you’d like. (non-fiction all about the history of ships and sailing etc) It’s massive and heavy. I need to flip through it to see what interesting info there actually is inside.
