Hello everyone,
Here’s the weekly WWW Wednesday hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words. Go check out her wonderful blog!
Want to take part yourself? All you have to do is answer three questions:
- What are you currently reading?
- What have you recently finished reading?
- What do you think you’ll read next?
Here’s what my reading schedule’s been looking like lately…
WHAT I’M CURRENTLY READING
Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett
BLURB:
Insurrection is in the air in Ankh-Morpork. The Haves and Have-Nots are about to fall out all over again. Captain Sam Vimes of the city’s ramshackle Night Watch is used to this. It’s enough to drive a man to drink. Well, to drink more. But this time, something is different – the Have-Nots have found the key to a dormant, lethal weapon that even they don’t fully understand, and they’re about to unleash a campaign of terror on the city. Time for Captain Vimes to sober up.
Okay, so this is how my Monday night went. Finished the last fifty pages of Stephen King’s Wizard and Glass, read through Some Things Never Change (all 101 pages of Anne Mazer’s 13th Abby Hayes book) and then leapt into Guards! Guards!. I only got 34 pages in before my eyes began to droop.
Last night I managed another 100 pages. And I am hooked. I understand now why people say it’s one of the best. The humour is so spot on and Vimes is just wonderful so far! Excited to get back to it tonight!
WHAT I RECENTLY FINISHED READING
Wizard & Glass by Stephen King (book 4 in the Dark Tower series):
BLURB:
Roland and his band of followers have narrowly escaped one world and slipped into the next. There Roland tells them a tale of long-ago love and adventure involving a beautiful and quixotic woman named Susan Delgado. And there they will be drawn into an ancient mystery of spellbinding magic and supreme menace…
So, believe it or not, this book is not only a thrilling read, but it is also contains one of the most beautiful romance narratives I have read in a while! Really! The story of Roland and Susan is just… just… AH! I can’t even put it into words. Stephen King is a master storyteller and this story captivated me and I’m still reeling from it. Consider this a new favourite of mine.
I know I said it last time, but I’ll say it again! Please do yourself a favour and read the Dark Tower series (if fantasy is your thing and you don’t mind a bit of horror and gore) because the writing is gorgeous and Roland is one of those flawed characters that you will relate to on so many levels! Brilliant!
Some Things Never Change by Anne Mazer:
Blurb:
In the thirteenth book in this popular series, Abby and her best friend, Jessica, are reunited after a long time apart. They find that they have each changed, and so has their relationship.
When Abby’s best friend, Jessica, moved away, Abby was beside herself. But time has passed, and the gap Jessica’s absence left in Abby’s life has been filled by new friends, especially Hannah. Jessica’s done a lot of changing, too. She calls herself Jessy now, and instead of baggy overalls, she now wears hip teen clothes. She even has a boyfriend!
Okay, so this is going to be my last Abby Hayes for awhile. I’ve enjoyed the break, but I’ve run out of those I own and I’m ready to start nostalgically working my way through a different series. Thinking of either Chronicles of Narnia, Harry Potter (I already reread Sorcerer’s Stone this year so I know I’ll be working through the others at some point ), The Roman Mysteries or A Series of Unfortunate Events. Any opinions?
WHAT I KNOW I’LL READ NEXT
The Sandman, Vol 8: Worlds’ End by Neil Gaiman
BLURB:
Reminiscent of the legendary Canterbury Tales, THE SANDMAN: WORLDS’ END is a wonderful potpourri of engrossing tales and masterly storytelling. Improbably caught in a June blizzard, two wayward compatriots stumble upon a mysterious inn and learn that they are in the middle of a “reality storm.” Now surrounded by a menagerie of people and creatures from different times and realities, the two stranded travelers are entertained by mesmerizing myths of infamous sea creatures, dreaming cities, ancient kings, astonishing funeral rituals and moralistic hangmen.
I cannot tell you how excited I am to be getting to this next installment in the breathtaking Sandman series by the brilliant Neil Gaiman.
No really, there are no words.:)
Stardancer (The Song of Forgotten Stars, Book 1): by Kelly Sedinger
BLURB:
While on their first space voyage, two Princesses from a small backwater planet find themselves hurtled across the Galaxy to a world that sees them either as saviors, come to rescue their world from a ten-thousand-year confinement, or as the greatest threat their world has ever seen. As they search for a way home, Princesses Tariana and Margeth learn things about themselves, and their universe, that they never dreamed possible.
Kelly is one of the many people I have been blessed to meet through the #storycrafter twitter chat hosted by Faye Kirwin (aka @Writerology) on Sundays. This past week, I was offered the opportunity to read the first two books of this series for free. I cannot wait to get started on them! A review will be sure to follow!
That’s all for me this week.
Please feel free to participate in WWW Wednesday and share the love of books. If you do, leave me a link in the comments, so I can check it out 🙂
Happy Wednesday one & all! And Happy Reading
May inspiration flow like ink upon your quill,
Faith

I need to read more Neil Gaiman, and Terry Pratchett. I’ve got three Neil Gaiman novels at home waiting to be read, but I’m embarrassingly behind on the Discworld series! We do have all of those in my library so I might start over at some point ^^

No pressure 😉 I only got started on Discworld recently, but other books have had to be put aside — like Name of the Wind ;P I’m sure you’ll get to it one day!

I have to tell you that I am seriously LOVING Sam Vimes right now! It’s not even funny. I passed the halfway mark in Guards! Guards! and he’s just too wonderful. Such a well-drawn character. Definitely going to top my list in the Discworld series!!

I haven’t actually read any Sandman, which seems like a very obviously hole in my reading list. Eventually!

With all the books there are to read, it’s inevitable that we’ve each fallen behind on some series or other. I hope you get a chance to read Sandman 🙂 It’s a really amazing series!

Ashamed to say I’ve never read any Stephen King; I tend to associate his novels with horror which I just don’t read. Have a good week!

No shame at all 🙂 I made the same assumption when it came to King but Dark Tower has more of a dark fantasy feel than strictly horror.
Hope you have a good week too!

By the Roman Mysteries, is that Ruth Downie’s series? I read the first one years and years ago and I have 2 and 3 on my shelf but haven’t read them yet. Happy reading and thanks for participating in WWW Wednesday!

It’s actually a book series by Caroline Lawrence about four young children in Ancient Rome who solve mysteries. It’s a great one that influenced me in my youth. Really dark stuff, though. But fascinating!
Thanks for hosting WWW Wednesday. I love discovering new reads this way 🙂
Have a beautiful week!
