WHAT I’M CURRENTLY READING

Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett

BLURB:

Insurrection is in the air in Ankh-Morpork. The Haves and Have-Nots are about to fall out all over again. Captain Sam Vimes of the city’s ramshackle Night Watch is used to this. It’s enough to drive a man to drink. Well, to drink more. Time for Captain Vimes to sober up.

Okay, so this is how my Monday night went. Finished the last fifty pages of Stephen King’s Wizard and Glass, read through Some Things Never Change (all 101 pages of Anne Mazer’s 13th Abby Hayes book) and then leapt into Guards! Guards!. I only got 34 pages in before my eyes began to droop.

Last night I managed another 100 pages. And I am hooked. I understand now why people say it’s one of the best. The humour is so spot on and Vimes is just wonderful so far! Excited to get back to it tonight!

WHAT I RECENTLY FINISHED READING

Wizard & Glass by Stephen King (book 4 in the Dark Tower series):

So, believe it or not, this book is not only a thrilling read, but it is also contains one of the most beautiful romance narratives I have read in a while! Really! The story of Roland and Susan is just… just… AH! I can’t even put it into words. Stephen King is a master storyteller and this story captivated me and I’m still reeling from it. Consider this a new favourite of mine.

I know I said it last time, but I’ll say it again! Please do yourself a favour and read the Dark Tower series (if fantasy is your thing and you don’t mind a bit of horror and gore) because the writing is gorgeous and Roland is one of those flawed characters that you will relate to on so many levels! Brilliant!

Some Things Never Change by Anne Mazer:

When Abby’s best friend, Jessica, moved away, Abby was beside herself. But time has passed, and the gap Jessica’s absence left in Abby’s life has been filled by new friends, especially Hannah. Jessica’s done a lot of changing, too. She calls herself Jessy now, and instead of baggy overalls, she now wears hip teen clothes. She even has a boyfriend!

Okay, so this is going to be my last Abby Hayes for awhile. I’ve enjoyed the break, but I’ve run out of those I own and I’m ready to start nostalgically working my way through a different series. Thinking of either Chronicles of Narnia, Harry Potter (I already reread Sorcerer’s Stone this year so I know I’ll be working through the others at some point ), The Roman Mysteries or A Series of Unfortunate Events. Any opinions?

WHAT I KNOW I’LL READ NEXT

The Sandman, Vol 8: Worlds’ End by Neil Gaiman

Stardancer (The Song of Forgotten Stars, Book 1): by Kelly Sedinger

Kelly is one of the many  people I have been blessed to meet through the #storycrafter twitter chat hosted by Faye Kirwin (aka @Writerology) on Sundays. This past week, I was offered the opportunity to read the first two books of this series for free. I cannot wait to get started on them! A review will be sure to follow!
